Choosing a Heat Seal Layer: PE or CPP

The heat seal layer is the part of a laminate that actually closes the pack, so it drives line speed, seal strength and appearance.

PE seal layers

  • Seal across a wide temperature window
  • Good seal strength and toughness
  • Common in general sachet and pouch structures

CPP seal layers

  • Lower sealing temperature, useful at high line speed
  • Good slip and gloss for printed wrappers
  • Widely used in BOPP/VMCPP structures

What to verify

  • Seal strength and peel behaviour on your own equipment
  • Seal temperature window at production speed
  • Whether the seal must peel cleanly or resist opening
