Expanding Finished Goods Warehousing to Support Shorter Lead Times

We have expanded finished goods warehousing capacity and revised our stock planning approach for customers running recurring packaging programs. The change is aimed at reducing lead times for repeat specifications.

Why Lead Time Is a Packaging Problem

For packaging materials, lead time is not only a production question. It also includes:

  • Raw material availability for the specific specification
  • Production scheduling across the relevant line
  • Quality release testing
  • Documentation preparation
  • Transport to the customer's site, including any customs formalities

Shortening total lead time therefore depends on more than adding production capacity. Stock planning and warehousing are significant contributors.

What Changed

Three changes support shorter lead times on repeat orders:

1. Additional finished goods space. Expanded warehousing allows longer production runs on recurring specifications to be held rather than produced to order.

2. Specification-level stock planning. For customers with predictable monthly volumes, a defined safety stock position can be maintained against their specification, allowing shipment from stock rather than from a new production run.

3. Revised release sequencing. Where a customer's quality system permits, release testing is scheduled ahead of the requested ship date so that documentation is ready when the goods are.

What Customers Can Expect

For specifications covered by a stock agreement, the practical lead time from order to shipment is shorter than for made-to-order production. The exact position depends on monthly volume, specification complexity, and whether the material is a standard or custom structure.

Two points remain unchanged:

  • Every batch is released against the agreed specification with a certificate of analysis
  • Documentation requirements are agreed at qualification, not at the time of each order

Details of our production infrastructure and quality system are on the About page and the certifications page.

Arranging a Stock Agreement

Stock agreements are most useful for customers running stable, predictable volumes on a small number of specifications. To discuss whether your program qualifies, share your forecast volumes and specifications with our sales team — contact us to start.
